Guidos Delicatessen & Bistro

guidosGuidos Delicatessen & Bistro
Ask people who live here for somewhere great to eat and you will very often hear the same names. Guidos Delicatessen & Bistro in Alsancak is one of those names.

If you like Italian food Chef Guido Spina is an award winning chef who has regularly cooked for Presidents and V.I.P’s. Fresh shellfish is their speciality, all ethically sourced, however the Menu is varied and the pasta dishes are deliciously authentic.

Inside the atmosphere is relaxed and intimate, Opera plays in the background. Outside the patio is atmospherically lit and a great place for a evening family meal á la The Soprano’s.

There is a deli counter with great Italian pasta, sauces, cheese and much more.
Guido’s wife Liz, is an excellent host and nothing is too much trouble.

Guidos has a daily specials board and menu highlights include:
“…IL Rigoletto, Fresh king prawns marinated in garlic and wasabi, grilled and served with a chilli and tomato sauce.
La Spaghettata, Guido’s take on the Italian classic dish Spaghetti Bolognese.
…”
Guido also organises friendly informal Cooking Courses for people interested in improving their culinary skills.

Address : Karaoglanoglu Avenue(Lapta Road), Alsancak

Guido’s is also one of my favourite places. Guido cooked us a lobster and pasta dish which was fabulous, adding just the right amount of chilli yum. I would also like to mention Yummies next to the old Astro, fabulous pizza’s, very reasonable and good service

Guido's what can I say friendly family run restaurant, whether you have something form the menu or ask Guido to cook something that bit different nothing is too much bother. Also apart from the restaurant they do a lot of good for the community from re-homing stray dogs to contributing a hamper or free meal for charity. They have supported me through setting up the Blood Donor data base and now TRNC Healthcare which is a voluntary organisation. They store all the equipment free of charge in their basement. Tomorrow a buffet lunch for all the volunteers at a special price, which I am sure will be wonderful as I have been before when they have laid on a buffet. For food and their support to all the community. 10 out of 10 every time.

Heard a lot of good things about this place. Gave it a try last Easter, Cant score it above mediocre I'm afraid. Maybe I missed something!! Hostess pushing the set menu on us we didn't find that appealing. Had to settle for Spag Bol left over from lunchtime. Small portions left the restaurant still hungry. Hostess also kept sneaking off outside to smoke, we found that very unappealing as you could still smell the cigs on her when she returned to check on drinks. We wont be bothering again there are to many fine dinning experiences to be had in NC.
