Time flies when you’re having fun

Each month Rosy Glow shares her news, personal thoughts and intimate letters on her new life living in Northern Cyprus.

Dear Sis,
Sorry it’s been such an age since I last wrote but winter is quiet here and not so much to entertain you with.

Christmas has come and gone and so has the New Year and we welcome 2011 in a hale and hearty mood. My good intentions of organising Christmas presents online went awry when one of my friends received three presents (two of which should have gone to other friends), so I had to do a little re-ordering. Still, everyone received something so the day was saved!

Spring is fast approaching and the land is turning green and lush after the first rains. Little yellow flowers, not unlike buttercups, are to be seen everywhere. It is still cold, for us, but sunny days are still to be seen.
Some of our hedging (Mia form) died due to chlorinated water from the pool spilling over to the roots but we have now replaced all the dead ones, plus a few extra, so we are keeping fingers crossed they will root successfully otherwise there will be wide gaps in the hedge.

Rob and I have not been out much but we did visit our new restaurant, Tungay’in Yeri which was really nice. The menu is limited and it was noted by a friend that the drinks menu is probably double that of the food but the hospitality of the owners more than makes up for that. They have purpose built the restaurant and it shows in the lovely fittings and ambiance.

Still no deeds and dialogue with the developer bring seemingly more empty promises of “two to three weeks”. Strangely, I do feel we will get them and once we do, we plan to do some extensions so that is something to look forward to …I think.

We have friends from Spain arriving mid February so we hope the weather is kind to us as it will be pretty dismal if we are not able to take them out and about. He is quite elderly so we are thankful we have a spare bedroom downstairs for them.

The newspapers are full of the fact that we are to get our own airline again, North Cyprus Airlines but as someone has already registered that name with Companies House in Cardiff, there will be a delay in the launch. You would have thought that someone would have checked!

Very sadly, the one shop, called All Occasions, which sold a good selection of UK birthday, anniversary etc cards plus many other party paraphernalia, is closing its doors. Businesses are suffering due to the austerity measures and the owners of All Occasions have opened a shop in UK and will be concentrating their efforts on that.

On that cheery note I will bid you farewell until next time but consider this why do they put pictures of criminals up in the Post Office?

What are we supposed to do, write to them?

Your itinerant sister,

rosy
